Turned my phone to airplane mode at 1:14 Central.  Waiting at least another 30 minutes before turning it back on.  Nothing against the process (though it seems useless to me), but that noise for Amber Alerts irritates the hell out of me.

It was a terrible morning to turn my phone off of silent mode.

I think this is a good thing, but ultimately will never be utilized. Just like the emergency broadcast system... when has it EVER been used to broadcast anything in an emergency? Was it used on 9/11? Nope. Was it used to give evacuation orders for Katrina? Nope. Is it used when an earthquake shakes California? Nope. Was it used when dude stole the Q-400 from Sea Tac airport in August? Nope. Worthless.

I got it on my current phone, as well as one I just got in the mail today. I haven’t put it on my network yet, but it is on my (xfinity)  WiFi. Still think people are overreacting.

And I don’t really understand the point of this.  The only thing I can think of that would be relevant nation-wide is an incoming missile.  And TBH, I think I’d rather not be notified of that.

Interesting what happened where I’m working. We heard the alerts going off in the government offices around us. In the room where they have all of us contractors housed, not a single phone alerted.

Mine just vibrated, and the tone from a coworkers wasn’t that loud, just like a weather alert.  I haven’t ever got an amber alert, so I don’t know how it compares to them.

We had these with Obama too.  More so an FCC broadcast than a Presidential one.  wooo you can know when we are absolutely screwed by some disaster.  I’d rather be surprised lol.
